Samsung quashes Facebook copycat rumours

A very strange story hit the media recently about claims that Samsung was planning to launch a Facebook clone. Samsung immediately quashed the rumours, but backtracking slightly they admitted that the Samsung ‘Family Story’ App – which allows people to share photos and news updates with friends – was going to be expanded and improved.

What is surprising about this story is that critics assumed that by adding a photo-sharing tool to their phones, Samsung would be able to in some way rival Facebook.

Facebook is now a global juggernaut with more than half of all connected people using it regularly. Even Google has struggled to build a social network to rival it, with their G+ hailed as a technical success even though very few people actually use it.

And this is the problem for any new market entrant; the network effect prevents a rival emerging quickly. Consider online auctions as another example – you will always turn to eBay first because it is where most sellers go to list their items and they are listed there because it is where most buyers go to find something.

Facebook has suffered negative publicity over their recent IPO and the incredible overpricing of the stock at flotation, but the company is still in a powerful position to control the vast majority of the time people are online – and therefore may yet justify a value far greater than it presently trades at.

If Facebook moves from being just a social network to being considered almost as ‘the Internet’ then what hope does any rival have, whether they have millions of phone handsets in the market or not?

on the iPhone 5 iPhone 5 is not Support. NFC?

Some time ago came news that iPhone 5 will support the NFC, but a recent report from the technology site Anandetch saying that iPhone 5 will not support NFC features.

NFC technology (Near Field Communication) is a wireless communication standard that can be mutually connected new each other. This NFC became popular through subcontractors for payment of mobile payment method.

Apple's latest Smartphone, the iPhone 5 NFC technology reportedly does not support such as previously thought. This was confirmed by leakage from the Apple Pro photo showing the mysterious component that originally estimated is NFC chip.

In the meantime, the people of technology site that analyzes the Anandtech suspected of being the NFC chip is not NFC chip, so the iPhone 5 likely does not support NFC.

"Considering the back of the metal from the new iPhone especially, it is very unlikely that the NFC exists in this generation iPhone. In fact, given the very small space at the top and bottom of the glass windows dedicated to RF, "said Anandtech.

As reported by CNET (28/08/2012), antenna NFC alone requires sufficient space and solid and would be possible if the NFC chip is placed on the top or bottom of the device.

"With NFC antennas at the top or bottom of the extreme, harmony with non-iPhone (e.g., token or payment tag reader) will be more difficult," added AnandTech.

NFC technology was applied on its own became popular upscale phones such as S3 and some Samsing Galaxy phone. NFC is widely used for mobile payment, transaction and some other functions passbook savings.

Until the current deployment in NFC mobile payment transactions are indeed not much, so perhaps Apple hasn't felt the need to bring NFC

Summer Road Trip Travel Tips

Summer Road Trip Travel Tips

Car Maintenance:

Consider having your car checked by an automotive technician before a long trip. An ounce of prevention can be worth a pound of cure.
Check the tires regularly for uneven or excessive tread wear. Make sure all items, including the spare, are inflated properly. Do at least one check BEFORE hitting the road, as tires hot from driving give inaccurate inflation readings.
Check the coolant level and condition, making certain the proper 50/50 mixture of water and coolant is present.
Check the level and condition of the engine oil. If driving under extreme conditions – such as very hot summer weather or pulling a heavy trailer – you may want to consider switching to an oil with higher viscosity. Check your owner’s manual for specific recommendations.
Look for worn, cracked, blistered or soft belts or hoses. Always perform this check with the engine off.
Hot weather can shorten the life of a car’s battery – if there’s concern, have it tested by a qualified automotive technician

Carry an emergency kit with a flashlight, extra batteries, warning devices such as flares or reflective triangles, jumper cables, a first-aid kit and extra water.
Don’t let the gas level get below one-quarter of a tank.
Select your route on a map ahead of time and study it to know exactly where you’re going. If you have a smart phone- use the new AAA MOBILE app.

Reserve all accommodations in advance.
Lock your car when you leave it and keep valuables out of sight.
Secure children and adults in safety seats, booster seats or seat belts as required by law.
Bring books, games, or music for the ride, and a pillow so passengers can sleep.
Bring information on your destination to make the most of your trip.
AAA hopes you have a safe and enjoyable vacation.

California roll sushi

California roll sushi

About the California roll

Before attempting your first California roll, you should be able to make a basic inside out roll. Check out our "How inside out rolls" if you're not sure how to do so. The California sushi roll is perfect for those who don't care much for raw fish. The main ingredient is imitation crab sticks (made of cooked Surimi fish meat), and so this sushi roll is easier to make and is safe for pregnant women to enjoy.
Ingredients:

Yield: 1 Roll = 8 pieces of sushi.
3/4 cup sushi rice.
1 nori sheets
80gr Imitation crab meat (stiks). (Surimi)
Avocado
Black and/or white sesame seeds
Tobiko (Flying fish roe)

How to make a California roll

Wrap your bamboo mat with plastic wrap. This is necessary in order to prevent rice from sticking to the mat.
Take a nori sheet, and break it in half. Place one half on the mat, with the shiny side facing down.
Grab a handful of prepared sushi rice, and spread it gently over the nori - about 1cm high. There's no need to press the rice onto the nori, only spread it.
Sprinkle a spoonful of Tobiko and/or sesame seeds evenly over the rice.
Flip the nori so that the rice is now facing down.
Line up the crab meat sticks along the nori.
Next to it, line up 1-2 thick slices avocado.
Tip - if you're not serving the dish immediately, you might want to squirt a few drops of lemon on the avocado, to prevent it from turning brown.
Roll.
Cut into 8 equal pieces. For best results first cut in half, then cut each half into two, and then again.

Apple ruling will hurt - but not for long

Editor's note: Jefferson Wang leads IBB Consulting's global wireless and mobility group, working with wireless carriers and device manufacturers , including those in the Android market, with new product innovation, development and testing.

(CNN) -- On August 24, a jury of nine in a California federal court handed down a ruling that sent shockwaves through the global wireless phone industry. Samsung, the world's largest phone maker, was found guilty of infringing on key Apple hardware design and software elements. Samsung got Apple's attention because of its size, but every Android device manufacturer now needs to consider potential exposure areas that could put them in the crosshairs as Apple tries to slow Android growth.
The appeals game will surely play out over the next many months. In the meantime, consumers will feel the pain as devices potentially get more expensive and software changes begin to creep into their Android smartphones. If appeals rulings uphold the initial verdict, the mobile ecosystem as we know it will look very different in one to two years. This would be driven by fundamental changes in the look and feel of non-Apple phone hardware, changes to the Android mobile operating system and potentially the emergence of a third popular mobile operating system.

Jefferson Wang
Smartphone market changes coming
Android phones account for 56% of the U.S. smartphone market. Friday's ruling was very sobering for the Android device manufacturers that have driven this growth. Until recently, smartphone design patent ownership seemed like a gray area. The court has now made it clear that, in fact, it is very black and white. All phone manufacturers will need to be a lot more careful from here on out when it comes to design, and patents they want to avoid, license or partner on. This could result in phones being more expensive for consumers.

What the Apple-Samsung verdict means How South Koreans view Samsung ruling Apple vs. Samsung: Tale of two countries
Over the next year, consumers lose in this equation. Android phone makers will be scrambling to develop temporary workarounds to steer clear of any potentially infringing Apple patents. The time spent working on these fixes will reduce time spent on development of new, innovative features. In the case of Samsung, it is likely the only device manufacturer with the resources and scale to develop and implement fixes rapidly, mitigating the immediate impact on consumers. If there are other phone makers in Apple's sights, they will be taking advantage of a much-needed head start to begin developing workarounds now to avoid a lawsuit.
Sure, Android consumers could always turn to Apple, but some are turned off by the company's one phone per year release schedule and continued hesitancy to incorporate the latest mobile advances such as 4G and larger screens. Consumers who want to stay in the open and highly-customizable Android ecosystem could experience some temporary frustration.

Creating the next iconic device
This ruling could prove to be the catalyst for major industry change. Smartphone product roadmaps are all but decided for the next year. Beyond that, every device manufacturer will be thinking outside of the "rectangular slab form-factor" box in an attempt to create the next big consumer trend. This will be easier said than done given that consumers have become accustomed to the current crop of devices. Device manufacturers know that consumers can't tell them what they want, they can only tell them what they don't want. This will result in phone makers traveling into unchartered territory in the hopes of capturing consumer attention and emotion.
Choice will likely also come in the way of new mobile operating system platforms. It is no coincidence that Microsoft and Nokia's stock opened higher the day after the ruling. Apple stated during the trial that these companies have proven that it is possible to innovate in the smartphone market without copying Apple. Of course, Apple does have patent and design agreements with Microsoft and both companies have a mutual interest in slowing Android growth. As wireless carriers and device manufacturers seek to diversify their product lineup in the wake of the ruling, Microsoft might finally have its day in mobile. It is very likely that we'll eventually see a three horse mobile operating system race among Apple, Android and Microsoft.
Short term is not pretty, but long term looks good

The short-term might not be pretty, but long-term, the industry is poised to break free from the homogenous rounded rectangular slabs with grid-based apps we're all familiar with today. This ruling will encourage accelerated innovation from device manufacturers, which will move beyond the constraints of a single form factor. Ultimately, the consumer will choose what designs will win and which implementation of hardware and software integration is most elegant. Today's constraints will define how the industry will innovate tomorrow. It might be a tough road, but there are promising days ahead.

Guj riot case: 32 convicted, 29 freed

BJP MLA and former minister in the Narendra Modi government Maya Kodnani and a Bajrang Dal leader were among 32 people convicted by a special court today in the 2002 Naroda Patiya riots case in which 97 people belonging to the minority community were killed.

.
Aditional principal judge Jyotsna Yagnik held Kodnani and Babu Bajrangi guilty under sections 120 (B) (criminal conspiracy) and 302 (murder) of IPC in the post-Godhra riots case, while acquitting 29 others.

The quantum of sentence is likely to be announced later. The massacre had taken place a day after the Godhra train burning incident of February 27, 2002.

On February 28, 2002 when a bandh call was given by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), a large crowd gathered in the Naroda Patiya area and attacked people belonging to minority community that resulted in the death of 97 people while 33 others were injured in the violence.

The trial began in August 2009 and charges were framed against 62 accused, one of the accused, Vijay Shetty, died during the course of trial.

As many as 327 witnesses, comprising eye witnesses, victims, doctors, police personnel, government officials, forensic experts and journalists including Ashish Khetan, who conducted a TV sting operation on the accused, have been examined by the court.

Initially, 46 people were arrested by the Gujarat Police, whereas 24 more people were apprehended after the probe was handed over to the Supreme Court-appointed Special Investigation Team (SIT) in 2008. In all, 70 people were arrested in the case.

Six persons died before the charges could be framed and trial started, while two others identified as Mohan Nepali and Tejas Pathak jumped bail and are still absconding.

Kodnani was arrested by the SIT when she was a minister of state for women and child development in Modi government in March 2009. She was an MLA at the time of the incident.

The Naroda Patiya case was probed by eight investigating officers over the last decade with the latest being Himanshu Shukla on behalf of the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The Naroda Patiya case was one of the nine cases of Gujarat riots being probed by the SIT, including the Godhra train burning case.

The other cases probed by SIT where judgements have been pronounced include the case in Ode village of Anand where 18 persons were sentenced to life imprisonment and five others to seven years in prison by a special court last month, for the killing of 23 persons on March 1, 2002.

Last year, a special court had awarded death sentence to 11 and life imprisonment to 20 others in the Godhra train burning case where 59 persons were burnt alive in S-6 coach of Sabarmati Express train near Godhra railway station.

Also, 31 persons were sentenced to life imprisonment by another designated court of Mehsana district in connection with Sardarpura riot case where 33 persons were killed during post-Godhra riots.

On July 30, 21 accused were sentenced to life imprisonment by a special court in another case of Dipda Darwaja area of Mehsana, where 11 persons were killed during 2002 riots.

Loft Conversion Design Guide

Loft Conversion Design Guide

Converting the loft is one of the most cost-effective ways to add extra living space to a home. New rooms within the roof can benefit from sunlight for much of the day, make the most of any views, and can have tremendous character due to the interesting roof shape.

At the top of the house the roof space can be the ideal location for a new master bedroom, a home office, playroom or even a self-contained annexe, but the new rooms can be suitable for almost any residential use you can think of, providing you comply with the Building Regulations.

Unlike most extensions, a loft conversion adds space without building over the garden. The only sacrifice is the space required to accommodate access via a new staircase.

A project typically takes four to six weeks to complete and it is usually possible to continue living in your home whilst the loft is being converted.

Assessing Potential

When assessing the potential of your loft for conversion, measure the space where there is a clear headroom of 2.0-2.1m or more between the joists and rafters. Once the floor has been built up and the roof insulated, this will leave you with around 1.9-2.0m of headroom, which is the minimum practical ceiling height.

Even if your loft does not currently offer enough space to make it viable for conversion – either because of the roof shape or height, the roof truss design or the position of cold water header tanks – there is probably a design solution that could make it possible. For example, increasing the volume of the roof can make a dramatic difference to the amount of usable space available.

Conversions are defined into different categories according to design and how any potential new space is added:

Rooflight Conversion

The existing roof space is converted with no increase to the volume other than the simple addition of rooflights to the front and back. Windows may also be added into the gable walls. This is the most cost-effective option as it involves minimal alteration. Costs range from £850-£1,250/m2.

Dormer Conversion

Dormer windows are added into the pitched roof plane to increase volume at the back or sides, and sometimes at the front. These may be relatively small extensions housing one or two windows (especially at the front facing the highway), but may be much larger across the whole of the roof width (usually at the back), forming a large area with full headroom. Costs range from £950-£1,650/m2.

Hip-to-Gable Conversion

When a roof slopes down to the eaves on all four sides it is known as a ‘hipped’ roof. To increase the usable space within a hipped roof, one (typically on a semi) or more hips can be replaced by a gable wall and the roof extended over the gables to create more volume. Costs range from £1,250-£2,250/m2.

Gable-to-Gable Conversion

Common in terraced houses, the gable walls are built up and the roof at the back rebuilt to increase the pitch so it is nearly vertical up to ceiling height, effectively forming a wall with windows, and then almost flat back to the ridge, forming a large area with full headroom. Costs from £1,250-£2,250/m2.

Mansard Conversion

This involves replacing the whole roof with a new box-like structure that effectively adds another full storey, with four almost vertical tile-hung walls, topped by a near flat roof. On a terraced house a mansard roof may span from gable to gable, front to back. Costs range from £1,250-£2,250/m2.

Replacing the Roof

Where there is currently a very shallow pitched roof with little or no usable space, it may make economic sense to remove the roof and replace it with a new structure that has a steeper pitch and more usable space. Costs range from £1,350-£2,350/m2.

Lowering Ceilings

In a Conservation Area alterations to the roof may not be permitted, especially increasing the ridge height. A solution is to add more space by lowering the ceiling in the storey below. Costs range from £1,550-£2,550/m2.

Meeting the Regs

Ceiling Height

There is no minimum ceiling height to meet the Building Regulations, other than above stairs, which require 2m of clear headroom. For a loft conversion this can be reduced to 1.9m at the centre of the flight and 1.8m at the edges to allow for sloping roofs.

The minimum practical ceiling height is 1.9m, but often attic rooms incorporate areas with sloping ceilings that are still usable for seating, bed heads, storage etc.

Insulation

If the existing roof covering (tiles, slates etc.) is being replaced it makes sense to insulate over the rafters and fit a breathable roofing membrane (waterproof, but air permeable to ventilate the roof structure). This creates what is known as a ‘warm roof’ and is very effective. Permitted Development rights usually allow for an increase in roof height of 150mm to accommodate insulation.

Where the existing roof covering is being retained, insulation will be required between the rafters (leaving a 50mm ventilation void) and beneath the rafters (usually with plasterboard bonded to it). Adding insulation under the rafters will reduce the ceiling height, so it makes sense to use the most space-efficient insulation materials possible, such as foil-backed rigid foam (i.e. Kingspan or Celotex). Many local authorities accept the use of thin multi-foil insulation materials, which are even more space efficient than insulation board.

Existing gable walls will also need to be insulated to meet the Building Regulations.

Soundproofing

It’s worth making an effort to reduce sound transfer between the new attic storey and the floor below — as the Building Regulations standard is not very rigorous. Sound can travel between the attic rooms and the floor below by two means: airborne transfer and impact transfer. The first can be reduced by making sure the structure is airtight, taping insulation materials, and using sealant around the floor edges and under skirting boards and floorboards. The voids between the floor joists can be filled with high-density acoustic insulation (acoustic mineral wool) — this cannot be used around recessed spotlights. Using high-density cement-impregnated chipboard will also help reduce impact transfer.

Staircases

The design and position of the staircase is a key decision in a loft conversion, as it will dictate how much of the storey below is lost to create access. The stairs must land where there is at least 1.9m of headroom (and 1.8m at the sides), which can limit options.

The steeper and narrower a staircase, the more space efficient it is. The maximum pitch under Building Regulations is 42° and although there is no minimum width for a staircase, less than 600mm is unlikely to prove practical. A spiral staircase is one of the most space-efficient options available.

Fire Regulations

Where your loft conversion forms a third storey, the structure needs to be separated from the rest of the house, and the walls, floor and doors given half-hour fire protection. This can be achieved using two layers of plasterboard and fire doors.

The means of escape in a fire is usually the main staircase, which must lead directly to an external door, so this too needs to be enclosed and given half-hour fire protection. This means that all doors to habitable rooms need to be fire doors. Hard-wired smoke alarms must also be added to each floor.

Where the staircase ends in an open plan room, the space can be fitted with a sprinkler system and a fire door separating the ground floor from the first floor level. Escape in the event of fire from the attic rooms can then be via a first floor window.

Loft conversions to bungalows do not need an enclosed staircase if there is a fire escape window in habitable loft rooms.

Planning Guide

Planning permission is not normally required for loft conversions, unless the roof space is extended.
Additions up to 50m3 (40m3 for terraces) to the side or rear of the roof, including dormers, are classed as Permitted Development (PD), so planning permission is not usually needed.
The insertion of rooflights usually falls within PD rights.
Planning permission is required for larger extensions, or roof alterations if PD is restricted (i.e. Conservation Areas).
Listed buildings will require listed building consent.
Any new side-facing windows must have obscured glazing and be non-opening, unless the parts of the window which can be opened are more than 1.7m above the floor of the room in which the window is installed.
The roof height can normally be increased by 100mm along the existing roof plane under PD rights to allow for the insertion of insulation, or rooflights.
The new roof must be no higher than the existing, and dormer windows must be set in from the verges by 200mm, except on gable-to-gable conversions.

Facebook’s Instagram Acquisition Greenlit, Now Worth $747 Million Down From $1 Billion

Facebook’s Instagram Acquisition Greenlit, Now Worth $747 Million Down From $1 Billion

More than four months after the deal was announced, the Federal Trade Commission has closed its investigation of Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram and the deal may proceed. Currently the deal is worth $747 million, with $300 million in cash plus $447 million in stock based on 22,999,412 shares of Facebook at today’s $19.44 share price.

That’s a lot less than nearly $1 billion when the deal first was signed based on the $30 share price at the time, or the $1.14 billion expected from Facebook’s $38 IPO price. Here’s our breakdown of why the FTC approved the deal and what happens next.

The commission unanimously agreed to close the investigation with a 5-0 vote. The deal will likely close officially soon and the two companies will finally be able to start integrating. We asked Facebook when it expected the deal would finally be set in stone, but it would only reply “We are pleased that the Federal Trade Commission has cleared the transaction after its careful and thorough review.”

For our breakdown of how the deal got approved, read – Why The FTC Let Facebook Buy Instagram: FB Camera Is Tiny, IG Makes No Money, and Google

THE FUTURE OF FACESTAGRAM
Hopefully for Facebook the ~$250 million in money that vanished thanks to the fickle public market won’t spook founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger. They’ve been working on Instagram without Facebook’s help the last few months, most recently launching a redesign including a Photo Map of geo-located photos.

Meanwhile, Facebook hasn’t been shy about taking product and design cues from Instagram. Facebook launched its standalone Camera app plus changed its web and mobile app news feed to show larger photos and look more like the product formerly known as burbn.

In the end, the deal seemed less about getting a brilliant product team or even the massive 80 million+ Instagram user base, though those are definitely important. Instead at 1%-2% of Facebook’s net worth, either at the time or now, it feels like a wise move to remove the budding competitor from the landscape. There were fears the buy might trigger serious anti-trust problems for Facebook but the FTC is apparently just fine with the acquisition.

While Instagram will certainly help Facebook “understand” mobile, the lean photo sharing startup won’t have much to contribute on the mobile monetization side. That’s an area Wall Street and critics have been hammering Facebook over. But with their combined power, the two companies might be able to figure it out. Facebook could potentially use its massive sales team to sell location- targeted, in-feed ads on Instagram for businesses nearby where users snap photos.

The black and white images form a Reaganesque ring around the concourse

Tampa, Florida (CNN) -- The black and white images form a Reaganesque ring around the concourse of the Tampa convention hall, sending an unmistakable message: This is now Mitt Romney's Republican Party.
Romney's convention challenges are many, beginning with what his top advisers unanimously say is their overriding goal: improve his "image" scores -- meaning how voters view him on questions of likeability, empathy, and understanding the struggles of the middle class.

How much Tropical Storm Isaac interferes with Team Romney's careful script is an open question. Publicly, as they canceled one day of the convention and juggled the agenda for others, convention organizers have kept an air of confidence they can achieve the goals despite the disruption and distraction.
Privately, however, there is a sense of frustration among some top Romney aides and advisers that the storm will steal too much of their spotlight, too much of their precious audience with the American people.
But there is also no mistaking the opportunity: Few Republicans arriving at their convention four years ago thought victory was a real possibility; those here in Tampa -- even those with reservations about Romney -- know President Barack Obama is highly vulnerable.
By the numbers, this race is about as close as it gets -- a dead heat in national polls, and nine "tossup" states in a CNN Electoral College analysis that, at the moment, shows the president with an advantage but also offers Romney several plausible paths to 270 and victory.
To win, however, Romney must use his convention to change -- or more realistically to begin to change -- the political undercurrents that make this a too-close-to-call race despite an economic environment that by most historical models would suggest a distinct Republican advantage.
Poll: Obama vs. Romney on the issues Presidential race close in swing states What Romney needs to do at RNC
Consider the empathy gap, the gender gap, and what you might call the ghosts of Massachusetts.
Empathy gap: Romney tends to have an advantage when voters are asked which candidate would better handle the economy -- and this question is by far the No. 1 voter concern.
Yet Obama consistently leads, and by a decent margin, when voters are asked who best understands their struggles.

In our latest CNN/ORC International poll, for example, Obama leads 53%-39% when likely voters nationwide were asked who best understands the middle class.
In a close race, if voters are torn between the candidates, trust and likeability come into play; Romney must narrow this empathy gap if he is to take full advantage of profound doubts about the president's economic stewardship.
The gender gap: Romney benefits from an edge among male voters and suffers from a deficit with female voters.

In that same poll, for example, the Romney-Ryan ticket has a 10-point nationwide edge among men, but trails the Obama-Biden ticket by 12 points among women.
When George W. Bush won a second term in 2004, in a relatively close election, he had an 11-point advantage among men and only a 3-point deficit among women.

Given Obama's rock-solid standing among African-Americans and Latinos, closing the gap with white women who live in the suburbs and exurbs is a critical Romney convention priority.
Ghosts of Massachusetts: Romney won't appreciate the comparison, but if he is to do what fellow Bay Staters Michael Dukakis and John Kerry failed to do, he must learn the lessons of their defeats.
Like Dukakis did in 1988, Romney arrives at his convention viewed as talented, and competent -- more of a technocrat than an ideologue.

Dukakis left his convention ahead in the polls, but -- believing competence would carry the day -- did little as the George H.W. Bush campaign portrayed him as far to the left of mainstream America.
Now, the Obama campaign is trying to cast the Romney-Ryan ticket as far to the right of the mainstream on issues ranging from Medicare to abortion rights.

Exorcising the ghost of Kerry is connected to closing the empathy gap. Like Kerry in 2004, Romney is viewed by a big chunk of the electorate as elitist and distant -- even indifferent.
The Obama campaign and its super PAC allies spent millions this summer pushing that image of Romney. To improve his November odds, the governor must use his convention spotlight to improve what voters think of his record in business, and prove compassion has a role in his decision making.
Ann Romney's speech is a critical part of the Romney reset effort. So is the 15-minute introduction Florida GOP Sen. Marco Rubio will deliver Thursday night. He told CNN he would show the country how Romney is a "role model" for how he juggles being a husband, father and grandfather with his business and political career.

Romney's principal audience is Americans watching at home, especially undecided and persuadable voters in the key battleground states. But he also has some convincing to do in the Tampa convention hall.
In our latest poll, 69% of Republicans said the party should nominate Romney, 30% said someone else.
While that clearly shows some buyer's remorse in the GOP, he is in better standing with his party and its convention delegates than McCain was four years go. Then, 57% of Republicans said McCain should be nominated, while 42% wanted someone els

Incredible ...This Is The Plan Of The New Offices Of Facebook!

Mark Zuckerberg has appointed Frank Gehry as architect, designer of the enlargement of the headquarters of Facebook in Menlo Park, near Palo Alto, California. Mark Zuckerberg will build something extraordinary for its employees.

A room that will be capable of accommodating giant thousands of people, all of them close enough to collaborate together.
--Mark Zuckerberg

Step is a step that Zuckerberg is interesting, considering Facebook's position in the current stock market still struggling shows its dominance. As for the Gehry has been asked to make room for 3,400 engineers Facebook to work and develop new things for the future of the social Web.

The original plans show, the team of this company will be joined in a single large room conception of open room. Hope, this will be an open Office room in the world, while maintaining the Mission of Zuckerberg's "make the world a more open."

This building will be "crowned" with the trees and will be linked to the main building with Facebook Office underground tunnel. The process of its construction will begin in 2013.

Zuckerberg himself has praised the proposed Frank Gehry in his Facebook page.

"I am excited about working with Frank Gehry to design our new campus. The idea is to create the perfect space design, a giant room that will be capable of accommodating thousands of people, all of them close enough to collaborate together, "said Zuckerberg.

"This will be an open floor plan is the biggest in the world," he added.

However, Zuckerberg also claims to have a lot of privacy and tranquility in this Office. The roof of the building will be a park for the community.

He also set up the construction of pedestrian path length, an Esplanade, and plenty of places to sit. From the outside it seems like you see a hill in nature.

High tech

Mark Zuckerberg buy Menlo Park in February 2011. Menlo Park was formerly the campus of Sun Microsystems. Today, Menlo Park neighborhood is designed for employee work hours can accommodate Facebook which is unusual. Of course, this place is also very high tech.

May be, the choice of Mark Zuckerberg over Frank Gehry is indeed appropriate. He was the architect of the Canada-u.s., which won numerous awards in the world of celebrities. One of his Awards is the "most important architect of this period" given by Vanity Fair.

Gehry also known as designed it so that dekonstruktif style. One of the design is the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, and 8 Spruce Street Tower in New York City.

Unfortunately, currently there are on Facebook in most conditions. Facebook shares that were previously opened in 28 US dollar share, now falls to 18,75 Dollars last week.

Jessica, Kate, & Colin: “Total Recall” Photocall In Berlin

Showing some love to their German fans, Jessica Biel, Kate Beckinsale, and Colin Farrell showed up at a photocall for their new flick “Total Recall” in Berlin today (August 13).

Joined by Kate’s husband (and the film’s director) Len Wiseman, the trio of beautiful celebrities smiled pretty for the cameras at the China Club terrace.

The reboot of 1990’s original film cost $125 million to make and the studio is hoping to boost sales in international markets, given that “Total Recall” only scored about $26 million domestically during opening weekend.

In the subsequent week, “Recall” upped its totals to $44 million, so hopefully Colin & his crew can drum up so big numbers overseas.

Colin Farrell Hosts Private "Total Recall" Screening

Giving his loved ones a special look at his latest film, Colin Farrell hosted a private screening of "Total Recall" in Dublin, Ireland on Sunday (August 12).

The 36-year-old was spotted heading into the screening while pulling off his bad boy look in jeans, black boots and a blue long sleeve shirt.

The Irish hottie recently sat down for an interview with Postmedia New to talk about the 2012 Len Wiseman directed version of Arnold Schwarzennager's 1990 hit.

When asked if he watched the former California governor's version, the "Phonebooth" star said, "I did, but it was probably more to annoy myself, and give myself a dose of the nerves really, and instill myself with premature regret."

Colin added that this time around the production team managed to make the film original, explaining, "I think we managed to find a way to have some level of unique story telling that made it worth revisiting while honouring the story of the first one."

"Total Recall" is in theaters now.

Sophia Bush Talks Politics On Twitter

Sophia Bush Talks Politics On Twitter

Enjoying a relaxing afternoon out on the West Coast, Sophia Bush was spotted out in Beverly Hills, CA on Monday afternoon (August 27).

The 30-year-old "One Tree Hill" actress looked pretty in print as she sported floral skinny jeans, a black tank top and sunglasses while chatting on her phone.

In personal news, Miss Bush has never been quiet about her opinion on equal rights and today she spoke out on the Republicans stance on rape.

The brunette beauty wrote, "I am honestly nauseous b/c of all these Rep. men defending rape/rape pregnancy. Gents, YOU WILL NEVER KNOW WHAT IT MEANS. #BackOffMyUterus." Later adding, "Rape, sexual assault, any time a woman is harassed against her will -- it's ALL legitimate. And horrifying. How dare anyone say otherwise. "

Miss Bush had re-tweeted this post that started her rant: "BREAKING: Tom Smith, GOP Senate Candidate in Pennsylvania just said that pregnancy from rape is similar to "having a baby out of wedlock."

AC/DC singer to host BBC radio series

AC/DC singer to host BBC radio series

After years of being played on the radio daily, AC/DC singer Brian Johnson is now set to host his own radio series.

“Brian Johnson’s Rockers and Rollers” will kick off on BBC Radio 2 on Thursday, August 30 at 10pm.

The series, which runs for six weeks, will provide a soundtrack to Brian’s life featuring music from ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin and The Sensational Alex Harvey Band – and there’ll be plenty of car talk too.

“Basically, I wrote a book called Rockers and Rollers, not about me, there’s enough of them,” he tells the Sunday Sun. “My memory is terrible, but cars always help me remember things. If someone asked ‘What’s the name of the girl you went out with when you were 19?’ you couldn’t remember, but you’d remember having a Mini Cooper. Cars started to get cool and groovy when rock and roll started – when Ike Turner brought out 'Rocket 88' it was about his car, the thing he loved.”

Johnson admits putting it together was tougher than he expected.

“Everyone thinks doing radio is just sitting down, you put a mic in front of you and just waffle, but it’s not that easy,” he explains. “I sat in this studio with a big black mic in front of us and not an idea. Thankfully Ben Jones and Dan Cocker helped me out. I have to thank those two.”

Earlier this year, both Johnson and AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young – in separate interviews – mentioned the band would be regrouping to begin work on a new album, the follow up to 2008’s “Black Ice.”

Stanford researchers: Ants have been using Internet algorithms for ages

Stanford researchers: Ants have been using Internet algorithms for ages

According to a paper co-authored by Stanford computer scientist Balaji Prabhakar and Stanford biologist Deborah Gordon, the Internet algorithms which are used in Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) have been used by ants for ages.

According to the two Stanford researchers, a specific breed of harvester ants - Pogonomyrmex barbatus – apparently speak the language of the Internet as they converse in “ifs,” “elses” and “end ifs” to determine how much food is available; thus behaving in a manner which is quite similar to the one which TCPs use for discovering the amount of bandwidth available for data transfer.

In what apparently is a far more interesting disclosure by the researchers, ants can perfectly mirror two TCP phases --- the “slow start” algorithm which TCP uses for controlling congestion within the network; and the “time-out” protocol which occurs during the snapping or disruption of a data transfer link.

As per the elaboration by the researchers, ants use the “slow start” principle when they first send out foragers to find out the availability of food before they finally tweak the rate of outgoing foragers; and “time-out” principle is used when no more ants are sent out in case the foragers fail to return within twenty minutes.

With the Stanford researchers’ findings on the so-called "Anternet" published in the August 23 issue of PLoS Computational Biology, Prabhakar said that the algorithm the ants use for determining the availability of food is “essentially the same as that used in the transmission control protocol.”

Best Buy's founder allowed to pursue buyout

Best Buy's founder allowed to pursue buyout

NEW YORK — Best Buy Co. Inc. and its founder and former chairman Richard Schulze say they have an agreement that will allow Schulze to pursue his plan to try to buy the nation's largest consumer electronics chain.

The news sent Best Buy shares up 3.2 percent to close at $17.87 Monday.

Best Buy said the agreement will allow Schulze to get access to confidential financial statements and allow him to form an investment group with private equity sponsors to make the bid. He already owns 20 percent of the company's stock.

The agreement is the first step toward Schulze making an official bid for the company, as Best Buy tries to turnaround results and adjust to a new CEO. Earlier this month, Schulze suggested he could pay $24 to $26 per share for the chain. Best Buy had said it was considering the overture. The talks stalled a week ago, with the two going back and forth in public exchanges.

The retailer says the agreement establishes a non-exclusive orderly process for a bid while protecting the interests of all shareholders. Schulze says the agreement will allow him to examine the company's books in detail.

Under the agreement disclosed Monday, Schulze and his potential partners will then have 60 days to present a fully financed proposal.

Analysts say the agreement is a step in the right direction for Schulze.

"(Schulze) had a zero probability of raising equity without due diligence, and now that zero is up to a 15 or 20 percent chance," said Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter. "Private equity firms want to understand their investment and return, and in order to understand that you have to be able to look at the books."

If Best Buy's board reject's Schulze's proposal, they will have until January 2013 to present a second proposal. Best Buy's board would have 30 days to review the second proposal before Schulze can take the offer directly to shareholders at the company's annual meeting or a special meeting. If the second offer is turned down by both the board and Best Buy's shareholders, he would have to wait one year before offering another proposal.

Best Buy's public fight over its future comes as it has been engulfed in mounting controversy since April when former CEO Brian Dunn resigned amid a company investigation into an "improper relationship" with a 29-year-old female employee. Schulze resigned as chairman a month later after the probe found that he knew about the relationship and failed to alert the board or human resources.

The series of bad news that has followed is happening as Best Buy fights to reverse a decline in its business due to a weak global economy and consumers' changing shopping habits. Best Buy's stores are becoming unprofitable as customers increasingly use them to browse for electronics, then buy them cheaper online or elsewhere. On top of that, shoppers are no longer snapping up big TVs and computers at a fast clip like they used to, instead opting for smaller gadgets like cell phones and tablets.

Last Monday, the day after talks with Schulze stalled, Best Buy announced it had tapped Hubert Joly, the former head of global hospitality company Carlson and a turnaround expert, as the new CEO and president. Investors, looking for a replacement with prior retail experience, didn't like the choice. Consequently, shares fell more than 10 percent.

The latest quarterly results, announced a day later, underscored the company's challenges. Best Buy withdrew its full-year earnings guidance after reporting a 90-percent drop in net income during the second quarter, dragged down by restructuring charges and weak sales.

During the period ended Aug. 4, U.S. sales growth in tablets, mobile phones, appliances and e-readers helped offset declines in gaming, digital imaging, televisions and notebook computers. Best Buy said the international business was dragged down by lower revenue in China, Canada and increased competition in Europe.

This development takes natural gas found in coal seams and ships it 260 miles by pipeline to an island off the northeast city of Gladstone.

From there the gas is liquified by chilling it to -258 Fahrenheit, then loaded onto tankers for export. Natural gas is used by power companies, various other industries and by consumers for heating and cooking.

It's one of six Australian natural gas projects on this list, which speaks to the continent's vast natural resources and its proximity to fast growing Asian markets.

Natural gas' clout in the world's energy mix is growing quickly. Some of the natural gas projects on this list may employ hydraulic fracturing -- or fracking for short -- which some fear may contaminate ground water.

In Greece, a Bold Plan to Solve the Debt Crisis

In Greece, a Bold Plan to Solve the Debt Crisis
By NIKI KITSANTONIS and ELISABETTA POVOLEDO
Published: July 6, 2012

ATHENS — Prime Minister Antonis Samaras of Greece set out his fragile three-party coalition government’s policy platform on Friday, a bold program of selling government assets and reducing state

But in a speech to Parliament, he also emphasized the need for measures to relieve a public weary of two years of economic austerity.

“Extreme injustices must be corrected,” he said, saying there should be no more wage or pension cuts. “We can’t have people who had homes now eating out of garbage bins; we can’t have suicides increasing.”

It was his first appearance in Parliament since being sworn in on June 20. He had been housebound since then after eye surgery.

The speech was the kickoff for a weekend parliamentary debate scheduled to conclude at midnight on Sunday with a vote of confidence on the coalition government. With 179 seats in the 300-seat Parliament, the government is expected to sail through that vote, although the economic program it must subsequently impose will be a much tougher challenge.

Italy moved forward on Friday with its own set of economic measures aimed at further reducing government spending. But analysts questioned whether the intended 26 billion euros ($32 billion) in cuts by Rome, over three years, would do enough to reduce spending that, at 720 billion euros a year, is about half of Italy’s gross domestic product.

But Greece’s budget problems are more urgent. Inspectors representing the country’s foreign creditors are in Athens to assess its progress in enacting spending cuts and other economic reforms to meet the terms of the 130 billion euro rescue package agreed to this year — Greece’s second bailout in two years.

Mr. Samaras was careful to emphasize that the terms of the bailout deal would be respected, as he promised in a letter to his euro zone counterparts last week. But he also indicated that there were limits to Greece’s willingness to bend.

“If the program goes off track again due to recession, this should not become a pretext for the imposition of more austerity measures,” he said.

The finance minister, Yannis Stournaras, acknowledged on Thursday that some aspects of the government’s painful fiscal adjustment program were “off track.” Mr. Stournaras is to flesh out the policy program in a speech to Parliament on Saturday afternoon.

Mr. Stournaras plans to travel to Brussels on Monday for a meeting of euro zone finance ministers, who are expected to have tough questions for him.

Greek opposition to the new government’s policies was evident well before Mr. Samaras spoke to Parliament on Friday.

The left-wing party Syriza, which sailed into second place in the June 17 elections on an anti-bailout platform, has accused Mr. Samaras, a conservative, of trying to renege on pre-election pledges to renegotiate the country’s debt deal. And Syriza vowed to fight the sell-off of state assets.

Mr. Samaras said on Friday that his government would give “top priority” to privatizing assets like the operational arm of the state railway company and the power board. “We don’t see privatizations as a cash generator but a generator of growth,” he said. “Whoever takes over will have to commit to create jobs.”

Pushing forward with privatizations would be a way of averting further painful cuts, he said. “We can’t continue to cut wages and pensions while state assets remain unexploited,” he said.

In Italy, whose debt load of more than 120 percent of gross domestic product is second only to Greece’s in the euro zone, the new measures reached on Friday are aimed at cutting spending in goods and services, trimming ministerial budgets and streamlining the civil service. The measures would also reduce financing to municipalities and regions, and more controversially, would drastically cut the number of Italian provinces by half.

The new program will also postpone a sales tax increase Italy had planned for October but will now put off until July 2013, in response to economists’ warnings that the tax would cause a slump in sales that the recession-racked economy could ill afford.

“This is an operation that aims to reduce excess spending,” Prime Minister Mario Monti said at the end of a seven-hour cabinet meeting early Friday. But he promised that it would not affect “the quality of the services.”

The new measures, detailed in a decree, will take effect immediately but still require the approval of the Italian Parliament within 60 days. Some initial reactions suggested that the government had some rough days ahead.

Lawmakers with the Democratic Party, one of the main political parties that support Mr. Monti’s government, said the decree had positive points but expressed reservations about the reduction of money to local governments.

“We’re concerned that these cuts will affect funding to nursery schools, assistance to the elderly and public transport,” said Stefano Fassina, the Democratic Party’s expert on economic issues. “So we will discuss these issues and try to correct them.”

Niki Kitsantonis reported from Athens and Elisabetta Povoledo from Rome.

Wall Street's Leadership Vacuum

Markets & Finance
Wall Street's Leadership Vacuum
By Dawn Kopecki on August 23, 2012

Wall Street, still reeling from public outrage and increased regulation, is in search of a new senior statesman. The indisputable champion of American high finance had been JPMorgan Chase (JPM) Chief Executive Officer Jamie Dimon—at least until multiple investigations and a $5.8 billion trading loss from wrong-way bets on credit derivatives at his bank diminished his stature. His peers at other big U.S. lenders are hobbled by poor performance, tarnished reputations, or a reluctance to step into the breach. “What you’re seeing in the financial-services industry is a lack of any kind of credible statesmen,” says Rakesh Khurana, a management professor at Harvard Business School. Dimon’s reduced ability to defend the industry publicly “basically leaves a vacuum,” he says.

This would be less of a concern if things were placid. As it stands, the industry confronts the most vigorous onslaught of regulations since Congress separated investment and commercial banking with the Glass-Steagall Act in 1933. That coincides with the lowest level of consumer confidence in U.S. banks since Gallup began polling on the question in 1979. The percentage of Americans saying they had a “great deal” or “quite a lot” of confidence dropped to 21 percent in June, from 41 percent in 2007 and more than 60 percent in 1980.

Dimon, who gained prominence after steering his bank through the financial crisis without a quarterly loss, was sought out for his advice and assistance by U.S. presidents, Treasury secretaries, and regulators. He was unapologetic in his criticism of Washington policies and policymakers. He said former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker, for whom a new rule banning proprietary trading is named, doesn’t understand capital markets. Bankers will need psychiatrists to evaluate whether trades qualify as hedges, he said. Last year he took on Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke in a public forum, asking whether anyone has “bothered to study the cumulative effect” of regulation on the U.S. economy. Now Dimon is “stumbling like an ordinary mortal,” says Thomas Stanton, a former senior staff member for the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission. “He’s no longer seen as a purely brilliant manager.”

Banks are still a powerful presence in Washington, even without a visible leader. Commercial banks spent $61.4 million lobbying Congress and regulators in 2011, almost double the $36.1 million spent in 2006, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. “They’re spending all this money because they know they are in the eye of the storm,” says Bob Biersack, a senior fellow at the nonpartisan, nonprofit campaign watchdog.

The lack of a commander leaves the industry vulnerable to more regulation, according to Greg Donaldson, chairman of Donaldson Capital Management, based in Evansville, Ind. “The banks have no moral authority at the moment,” Donaldson says. “Jamie Dimon had it, but that’s done. The government is piling on the banks. They’re just being hammered, and it doesn’t help our economy. Somebody has to fight the damn thing.”

The pool of successors is small, and all the contenders have their share of baggage. Bank of America (BAC) CEO Brian Moynihan has struggled to contain losses from soured mortgages that have cost the Charlotte-based lender more than $40 billion. Citigroup (C) CEO Vikram Pandit had his bank’s capital plan rejected by the Fed on March 13. Shares of the New York-based lender have tumbled 18 percent since, as of Aug. 21. Shareholders in May rejected Pandit’s compensation plan, which included about $15 million for 2011 and a retention agreement that could be worth $40 million. At Goldman Sachs (GS), CEO Lloyd Blankfein retreated from making public comments in 2010 and 2011 as his company was sued by the Securities and Exchange Commission for its role selling subprime mortgage bonds, a case later settled for $550 million. Blankfein recently began an effort to reshape his image with television interviews and speaking engagements. This month the SEC and the U.S. Department of Justice ended probes of the company.

Morgan Stanley (MS) CEO James Gorman, whose firm announced job cuts on July 19 after missing analysts’ estimates amid a 48 percent drop in trading revenue, doesn’t fit the Wall Street titan stereotype. For black-tie events the Australian prefers a rumpled tuxedo he bought as a business school student in 1980 to Armani, and he stocks Vegemite in the executive kitchen. John Stumpf, CEO of Wells Fargo (WFC), has the respect of his peers, and his San Francisco-based bank, the largest in the U.S. by market value, has posted annual profits for more than a decade. Still, he works far from Wall Street and is “allergic” to the role of industry statesman, says Nancy Bush, an analyst and contributing editor at SNL Financial, a research firm based in Charlottesville, Va. “Part of Jamie’s fitting into that role was his natural brashness as a Wall Streeter and New Yorker, and that is not John,” Bush says. “He’s self-effacing, he’s quiet as a manager, and his company is naturally quiet. It’s not a role that will naturally fall to him, though I think it should.” Spokesmen for Wells Fargo, JPMorgan, Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, and Morgan Stanley declined to comment.

Wall Street has had no shortage of public leaders, beginning with John Pierpont Morgan, who founded the company that bears his name and played a major role in halting the banking panic of 1907. More recently, Walter Wriston, who ran Citigroup predecessor Citibank from 1970 to 1984 and is credited with introducing automated teller machines, helped New York City avoid bankruptcy in the 1970s with a financing plan he devised with another industry leader at the time, Felix Rohatyn at Lazard Frères. The dearth of leadership on Wall Street now is “really problematic,” says Harvard’s Khurana. “When an institution or industry loses its legitimacy, it loses the benefit of the doubt.”

Lindsay Lohan: Prime Suspect in New Burglary Case!

Lindsay Lohan: Prime Suspect in New Burglary Case!
August 27, 2012 8:15 PM by Free Britney

Lindsay Lohan is back in surprisingly familiar territory as the prime suspect in a criminal investigation ... oh how we only wish we were kidding.

The troubled star is formally a suspect in the theft of $100,000 worth of watches and sunglasses from an L.A. home this month, TMZ reports.

LiLo was recently at the Hollywood Hills home of Sam Magid, who called the LAPD and reported a jewelry theft the night after an all-night party.

The 26-year-old star has been at the house frequently, including at the all-night house party a week ago Sunday when Magid reported the crime.

Lindsay and her assistant Gavin Doyle are both suspects in the theft, with earlier reports suggesting that Lohan may have invited the robbers in.

Now it appears she's being fingered as the crook herself.

There's an odd twist, though, in that Magid has since recanted his story and now says nothing was stolen. Police aren't closing the investigation, however.

Officials believe independent witnesses can corroborate their belief that Lindsay and Gavin are the thieves and bring charges even without Magid.

It's not clear why the wealthy Magid would change his story.

LAPD detectives contacted lawyers for Lindsay Lohan and Gavin Doyle today, asking for an interview with the two suspects; the request was denied.

Don't forget insurance for your college-bound kids

Don't forget insurance for your college-bound kids
By Dave Carpenter, Associated Press Updated 4d 8h ago

Insurance needs are often overlooked in the last-minute scramble. But relying on existing coverage — or a lack of it — can end up costing families during the college years and perhaps beyond.
Parents don't need to buy all kinds of additional insurance as they pack the kid off to college. But they had better at least review their coverage to know whether they're prepared for that stolen iPad, trip to the emergency room or worse.

A look at key considerations for different types of insurance:

Health

Many colleges and universities require health insurance. Most parents can meet that by keeping their children on their plan, which federal health reform allows until age 26.
If the college is in another state, it's important to check your plan's network of preferred doctors and hospitals extends there. Otherwise the highest level of coverage may not be available.
School-sponsored health plans usually cost hundreds of dollars per semester. Many also place dollar caps on coverage, as well as require that most care be provided through the student medical center. These options are best-suited for the many students whose parents don't have health insurance.
An alternative would be an individual health insurance plan. A student should be able to obtain a policy that costs no more than $150 a month. Check prices at Internet-based insurance provider eHealthInsurance.com or StudentHealthPlan.com.

Auto

Car insurance is an area where families can actually save money.
Premiums may be reduced by 10 percent to 20 percent if the student attends a college more than 100 miles away and doesn't take a car. And, car on campus or not, some insurers also offer a "good student discount" for those who maintain a B average or higher.
Even if they might not qualify for either discount, parents should inform their insurance company that a student on the policy will be relocating. It's good to keep insurers in the loop on such moves. Depending on where the college is, the cost could go up or down.
Personal property
It's not unusual for students to have thousands of dollars of electronic gadgets and other belongings in their dorm rooms, from laptops and videogame systems to bicycles and musical instruments. And they are popular targets for theft.
Such items typically are covered by the parents' homeowners or renters insurance if stolen — minus the deductible, of course. But coverage varies, so inquire about any policy limits.
Taking a photograph of each expensive possession can help ensure receipt of its proper replacement value if it's stolen.
To protect against items being lost, or for extra coverage with a lower deductible, renters insurance is available for usually around $150 to $200 a year. Deductibles can be as low as $50 or $100.
Anyone living off-campus will need to get a separate renters insurance policy to cover personal belongings, as will each roommate.

Tuition
Tuition refund insurance is a means of getting your money back if the student withdraws from college — generally only for documented medical reasons or due to the death of the student, parent or guardian.
Much of what it provides is peace of mind. "It's not something that you really need, and it's relatively expensive," says Mark Kantrowitz, founder of the financial aid site FinAid.org.
But parents may want to think about buying it if they're paying all the costs at an expensive school without financial aid, or if the child has a serious medical condition.
"We encourage tuition insurance because students are not invincible," says Kurt Holmes, dean of students at The College of Wooster in Ohio. "Every year, medical situations as simple as mono or an appendectomy arise that cause students to lose a semester."
First, look into the college's refund policies and tuition insurance plan.
Another option is to get coverage through Sallie Mae. The nation's largest student lender, which provides $5,000 of annual tuition protection to borrowers, also sells the insurance separately. For example, $20,000 of tuition coverage costs $359 a year.

Life
Buying life insurance for a college kid might sound overly cautious, if not macabre. But it can make sense for parents who co-sign for tens of thousands in private student loans. Without it, they will owe the amount they co-signed for if their child dies.
It's possible to get a $100,000 term life insurance policy for a student for less than $100 a year. That's a bargain price to pay to avoid the risk of years of hefty monthly payments if tragedy strikes.

Travel
Travel insurance can help cover costs of a semester abroad marred or lost because of illness, accident, theft or other setbacks. Insurers reimburse for many travel-related emergencies, although exclusions vary widely. Some offer trip cancellation protection for any reason. Hurricane Since 1851 Mapped So the Visual Graph
Visual chart shows the location and intensity of each storm.

If you would like to see a long history of hurricanes on Earth, you can figure it out easily. Now there is a visual chart that maps a hurricane since 1851.

John Nelson, User Experience and Mapping manager IDV Solutions, a
the company has compiled a data visualization, data visualization through storm maps showing the location and intensity of each storm. This criterion is included in tropical storms recorded since 1851.

To quote the page, using a database of NewScientist Nelson accumulation by the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Nelson entered more than 12,000 data points in this infografik.

The map uses the Saffir-Simpson scale, the hurricane rating with maximum speeds of category 1 (slower than 153 kilometres per hour) up to a category 5, where the peak wind speed of 252 miles per hour. The storm was weak in infpgrafik is represented by blue point, while strong storms are marked with green electricity.

Nelson choose bottom-up viewpoint of unusual from the Earth, with the Antarctic Centre. So, he found this view is the best view of the underlying pattern that represents the formation of storms.

One of the features that is very striking is the absence of a number of data points in the vicinity of the equator, a black ribbon between two coloured circles. This is due to the Coriolis force, something which is important in the formation of a hurricane, showing the storm too weak to operate at a latitude of the equator.

Before you start to worry about the high number of storms projected across Europe and North America, this is only a representation of data. Detailed satellite imaging from the Eastern and southern hemispheres is a relatively recent development, so naturally and archive NOAA poorly equipped for those parts of the world as can be seen in the chart below which shows the distribution of the data that are available from time to time.
