Obisoft: 95 percent of Pirated PC Game
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) game developer Ubisoft, Yves Gullemot launched a surprising statement, 93 to 95 percent of the PC game Windows hijacked or pirated.
PC games industry is indeed not much difference with the entertainment industry such as film and music, is very prone to acts of piracy to the detriment of producers.
DRM (Digital Right Management) had a chance to be the solution to addressing piracy, however its presence even caused controversy among their customers, because DRM rules assessed very stiff and too limiting space users.
Ubisoft'S CEO says that 93 to 95 per cent of outstanding PC game is pirated games. Rampant piracy is very detrimental to the developers and publishers of the game so that it impedes the growth of the gaming industry in the future.
As reported by from Tomshardware (24/08/2012), try to find a way other than Ubisoft's DRM to combat piracy of PC games and consoles growing rampant. One way is to launch a traveled game is free-to-play (F2P), why?
F2P is similar to the "freemium", where users can play the game for free at certain levels and have to spend money to continue to play the next level.
"This is a way to get closer to your customers, to make sure you have an income. On the PC is only about five to seven percent of players who pay for F2P, rest of it pirated. "
"It shows the piracy rate reached 93-95 percent. The revenue we get from people who play is a term that is longer, so that we can continue to develop gaming content, "said Yves Guillemot, CEO of Ubisoft.
F2P is one solution to develop the market for PC game developers can generate revenue in countries which had not produced due to piracy.
