Nissan Set Up Microsoft Kinect-Based Virtual Showroom
Microsoft Kinect motion sensor technology is not only beneficial to play games on the Xbox 360 only, but are also valuable in the automotive world. Nissan is rumored to currently developing virtual showroom by leveraging Microsoft's Kinect motion sensor technology.
Nissan is rumored being test project using a virtual showroom base Microsoft Kinect motion sensor technology that allows visitors to see the outside of the showroom and the interior of the car without having to touch the car physically.
Through the Microsoft Kinect technology, Nissan car dealers now will be able to showcase the cars that did not exist in dealer stock or still in the process of production.
According to Nissan, there are currently about 16 Nissan car dealer in the United States to become a pilot program of the project virtual showroom and currently has one type of car which is available in the virtual showroom-based Kinect Experience, namely an SUV (Sport Utilty Vehicle) Nissan Pathfinder.
Nissan also added that visitors can see the showroom and check vehicles from various sides and interior by using movement and sounds that have been enabled to take a closer look closely every aspect of the vehicle.
Nissan originally showcased virtual showroom demo using Kinect technology Experience with car Nissan Pathfinder in the automotive exhibition in Chicago and New York at the beginning of this year and get a positive response.
As reported by the VR-Zone (26/08/2012), due to the positive response from customers, Nissan decided to start a pilot program to project the virtual showroom which currently have been conducted in 16 car dealerships in the United States.
"Nissan is one of the first car manufacturer using Microsoft Kinect technology at the dealer. We are committed to encouraging innovation not only in the design of our vehicles, but also how we enter the market, "said Jon Brancheau, VP of Marketing for Nissan North America.
